My first memory of Tanglewood is staying the night in 3rd grade during the summer of 1993. I remember laying in my bunk… absolutely terrified. The dorm sponsor decided it was a great idea to tell a ghost story before bed and for some reason it had captured me. I don’t even remember the story or what it was related to, but I remember laying there thinking ‘how am I going to get through a week of this?’
I started by trying to just cover my head, but that never really works. My next idea was just to think about anything positive I could, but after so long my mind went back to the story from earlier.
So instead, I decided to think about the sermon from that night, and try to pick apart everything the speaker had said. The point of the message was to make sure that we act how the Bible teaches us to act and not try to make the Bible say how we want to act. I thought back through how the intro led into his stories and the verses and was amazed at how much thought he put into making all his points. This was the first time I ever thought it would be a fun job teaching the Bible to people and helping them understand what Christ wants from us.
Because of moments like this at Tanglewood and other places, I went on to Bible College and now have 21 years in ministry.
I think many of us have a point we can think back to from camp where we had an ‘aha’ moment. Or maybe we have memories that still flood our minds to this day. Moments where we began to walk in our own faith rather than just standing on the faith of others.
2025 is the 50th Anniversary of Tanglewood Christian Camp.
50 years of staying up way too late for too many days in a row.
50 years of swimming and snack shack during free time.
50 years of making lifelong friendships.
50 years of students encountering God, maybe for the first time ever.
And 50 years of some of those students deciding to spend their life teaching others how to encounter the resurrected Christ.
To celebrate we have a few promotions going on.
The first 10 first-time campers can sign up for camp for just $50!!! You can find that registration form here.
The first 25 returning campers will get $50 off this year’s summer camp. You can sign up for that here.
We would love to have an event where we can all come together (online, in person, or both) to celebrate what God has done and is doing! Please let us know if that is something you would be interested in.
We are also looking for partners. Individuals that would like to help Tanglewood continue its mission by teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ as found in the New Testament. We have different monthly partnership levels that you can sign up for to help us reach our goals.
$5 – Every bit helps and we are so thankful!
$20 – This level is equivalent to the cost of one camper per year. At this level, we will send you the yearly summer t-shirt.
$50 – At this level, we will send you the t-shirt as well as other camp swag.
$100 – At this level, you will receive the t-shirt and swag as well as a thank you on our website.
Thanks so much to everyone reading this for your support, memories, volunteering, and prayers over the past 50 years. We definitely couldn’t have done it without you!
